So, after we left Bozeman (Friday), we spent 5 days in Yellowstone. It was great! I loved it. It was also nice to know we had plenty of time, so we didn’t feel rushed to do everything. We had some down time each day: reading, relaxing, whatever! We saw so much wildlife it was amazing
- A coyote with 3 pups. We saw the pups running around and playing. Mom getting annoyed and moving, then the pups would come bother her. At times she would pick them up in her mouth and move them.
- We saw several bears. One of the sightings was two cubs – one chasing another one up a tree! I’ve never seen a bear climb a tree and let me tell you they are really fast! The bear started to come down out of the tree and then the other one chased him up even higher…amazing to watch
- We saw tons of buffalo, but one of them was really crazy. He was kicking up dirt like he was getting ready to charge. He did run a couple of the other buffalo off and then he started rolling around in the dirt. He was hilarous to watch, of course from a safe distance in our vehicle. He was running all over the place and the funny thing was he wasn’t really "running", it was more of a hop. I don’t know if that’s normal, but to see a huge animal "hopping" around was quite amusing.
- The highlight was seeing two wolves hunting a couple pronghorn. It was amazing to watch, we were so lucky to see that. Fortunately, for me, the pronghorns were way faster than the wolves. I don’t know how I would have handled seeing them catch something. It was weird, the pronghorn would run away, incredibly fast, but then would come back. It was almost as if it was teasing the wolves.
- We also saw moose and lots of elk.
I loved seeing all the thermal features. It’s amazing to see the earth so alive! Jason doesn’t like it as much (I think it freaks him out a little), so I did some things on my own. Frankly, it was nice to spend some time apart. I love him and all, but after a few weeks of being constantly together, a little time apart was freshing. For those of you who haven’t been to Yellowstone, I highly recommend it. There’s steam coming out of the earth everywhere. Of course everyone knows about Old Faithful, but there are tons of thermal features all over the park. It’s so strange to see water boiling, mud boiling, steam venting all over the place.
Yesterday we arrived in Teton NP. We haven’t done too much yet, but are looking forward to exploring this area as well. We’re going to several ranger evening programs which I love. I alos found out that the Junior Ranger Program is open to all ages, so I’ll have to check that out. Wouldn’t it fun to collect badges from all kinds of National Parks?
Well, enough time inside on a computer. I’ll try to do pictures soon…..
Glad you are having a good time. The Tetons are really nice. I haven\’t been there since I was in 8th grade, but I rememeber horse back riding and canoeing…I also remember being cold…HA!
Mom said she sent you a message about Alaska…she wanted to make sure you got it!
Hope that you continue to have fun! I think the badge thing sounds like a cool way to have a reminder of your trip.
